Spot a truck

Name a WS Truck

A proud British tradition is rolling again, back where it belongs: on working trucks, on British roads.

The Tradition

Back in 1976, Edward Stobart sparked a simple idea that became a national obsession, giving his trucks a proper name (made famous with the first truck being named Twiggy) and then letting the public join in the fun by naming the trucks via application.

Half a century later his nephew, also called Edward Stobart, is bringing that spirit back to life within the WS group of companies where Edward is CEO. Trucks with names you can spot, smile at, and feel proud of.

Now you can help write the next chapter of the tradition.

Honour your mum, daughter, wife or partner with her name that will ride on a real truck for up to three years, covering the length and breadth of the country.

The Idea

A little tradition. A lot of heart.

This is about family values, pride in our fleet, and bringing back something that made people genuinely happy; seeing a named truck go by and thinking, “That one's ours.”

It's also about community: the drivers who care for the kit, the families who spot the names, and the stories behind every one of them.

How it Works

  1. Choose a name, it must be female and both First and Middle (i.e. Katie Louise) or just a first name. It must be a real name, a meaningful name.
  2. Add your story (optional but recommended). A sentence or two about why that name matters; the kind of thing you'd tell a friend in the pub.
  3. We review the application and if the name doesn't already exist and a truck is available, your name will be assigned to a truck. A donation link will be sent to you for a minimum donation of £25 for the charity, When You Wish Upon A Star. This must be paid within 72 hours. WS will then match your donation meaning that £50 will be raised for charity for each named truck. Once paid, we'll confirm the details, apply the name, and let you know when it's out on the road.
  4. The Truck will be on the road from a minimum of 12 months and up to three years.

Why we're Doing it

Because the roads could do with more personality.

A named truck isn't just branding; it's a moving tribute. It's a nod to a proud British haulage tradition, and a brilliant excuse to turn everyday journeys into a game of “spot it!”
